Activities

Our monthly programme of Activities in English includes:


Exhibitions English Film Club Talks & Conferences Guided Tours
Theatre in English "Tapas" Tuesdays Afterwork English Networking, Start Ups & Pitches, in English

We organise small groups, for different levels, always accompanied by native speakers.


Our Activities include:

  • A Pre-Activity Information Pack, which we send via e-mail when you register.
  • The guided visit/activity + group conversation with a native speaker (minimum 2 hours).
  • The Post-Event Feedback, with grammar and vocabulary corrections and exercises, anecdotes of the day and some recommended further reading, which we send via e-mail, one or two days after the Activity.

And don't forget, our native speakers will offer you constant help and encouragement to express your opinions and feel comfortable speaking in English. It really is an excellent opportunity to enjoy yourself at the same time as you practise your understanding and conversational skills in English.

Art
  • William Blake and Contemporary Cartographies. Drawing Thought (at the CaixaForum).
  • Treasure Island. British Art from Holbein to Hockney and Paul Klee. Master of the Bauhaus (at the Fundación Juan March).
  • Portraits. Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou, Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. The Birth of Modern Art and Bohemian Lights. Artists, Gypsies and the Definition of the Modern World (at the Fundación Mapfre).

  • Photography
    • Imogen Cunningham and Emmet Gowin (at the Fundación Mapfre).
    • Virxilio Vieitez (at Espacio Fundación Telefónica).
    • Manolo Laguillo. Reason and City (at the MUICO).

    Architecture and Design
    • Zaha Hadid (at The Ivory Press).
    • Ma Yansong from (global) Modernity to (local) Tradition and Spain Mon Amour and Modern Ruins (at the MUICO).

      Fashion
              • The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier. From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk. (Fundación Mapfre).

English Film Club

Our English Film Club meets on a monthly basis at a local cinema, to watch undubbed films, in English.
Afterwards, over a drink and some tapas, we enjoy some animated group conversation in English.

    Some of the films we've seen so far include:

            • The Guard (El irlandés), written and directed by John Michael McDonagh.
            • To Rome with Love, written and directed by Woody Allen.
            • The Impossible, directed by Juan Antonio Bayona.
            • The Angels' Share (La parte de los ángeles), directed by Ken Loach.
            • ARGO, directed by Ben Affleck.
            • Quartet, directed by Dustin Hoffman.
            • Lincoln, directed by Steven Spielberg.
            • The Trip, directed by Michael Winterbotton.

Talks / Conferences

Each month we also attend different talks and/or conferences given by native speakers.
These are followed by a coffee and chat and are always very enjoyable occasions.

    In the past we've listened to talks and/or conferences on subjects such as:

              • An unusual holiday in Hong Kong.
              • My life as an expat.
              • Wildlife in the Sierra of Madrid.
              • International Poetry Recital.



Guided Tours


              • To The British Cemetery in Madrid - a very interesting and even entertaining visit, with plenty of historic background information.



Theatre in English


              • Twelfth Night - Shakespeare in English with Spanish subtitles (Canal Theatre in Madrid - performed by Propeller).
